18 Oct Fall Festivities in the Lakes Region
If you love everything pumpkin spice, scarves, and fall, you’ve come to the right place. There is no better way to see the fall foliage than in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. Luckily with a stay at the Summit Resort, you will be centrally located to all of the fall fun happenings in the area and surrounded by some of the most brilliant foliage New England has to offer. Take a look at the list of some of our favorite fall events and festivities:
Pumpkin Festival
The NH Pumpkin Festival is a family friendly autumn celebration taking place on October 18th from 4-8pm and all day on October 19th. Admission for this street festival is free to all. You can drop off your carved pumpkin or get creative and carve one out at the carving station to add to the 54-foot tower of jack-o-lanterns. Stroll the streets admiring all of the designs and enjoy 60+ food and craft vendors along the way. For those 21+ there will be a beer garden, and there is plenty of kiddie rides and amusement for everyone. On Saturday, the Runaway Pumpkin run/walk will be starting at 9am and there will be live music playing all day long at the festival. There will also be a performance by the Jumpin’ Jack Car Show and Gunstock Mountain’s Outdoor Adventure Expo. Make sure you stick around later in the evening for the jack-o-lantern lighting beginning at 5pm on Saturday and the pumpkin dump derby at 8:30pm. Check out their website here for more information on events.
Haunted Hike at Steele Hill Resorts
Join us at our sister resort, Steele Hill, for the second annual Haunted Hike. The event will take place from 5 – 9pm on Saturday, October 26th kicking off at the Carriage House barn building. Admission for the event is $5 for children five and under, $10 for children between the ages of six and twelve and $15 for adults and children thirteen and older. With the cost of admission visitors can enjoy a festive hayride up to Steele Hill’s haunted Yellow Trail. Brave the ghouls and goblins along the 0.8 mile trail of terror and finish off the evening with a variety of family-friendly activities including face painting, a warm fire pit, games, crafts, a make your own caramel apple station, and seasonal refreshments. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Norris Cancer Center in memory of our dear friend and coworker, Jan McLaughlin.
Take a Foliage Tour
Peak foliage is here in the Lakes Region, which means it is time to get new batteries for your camera and hit the road to view all of the colors autumn in New Hampshire has to offer. Take the Lakes Region Scenic Fall Foliage drive which will loop you through our neighboring towns surrounding Lake Winnipesauke. During the drive expect to see many fall colors and extraordinary views of the lake and mountain ranges nearby. The drive should last upwards of two hours and presents many opportunities along the way to stop and enjoy a variety of attractions and activities including hopping aboard a foliage cruise on the Mt. Washington, dinner along the lake, a stroll through the quaint Meredith shops and so much more!
