25 Mar Gunstock’s Pond Skimming Event
This past winter has been an exciting season with ice fishing derbies, trips to the ski mountains, ice castle tours, and snow much more! Now that spring is on the horizon, we are so excited to pack away our snow boots and puffer jackets, but first we need one last hurrah! Gunstock Mountain, Lakes Region’s most popular winter destination, is hosting their popular Pond Skim competition on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 10am – 2pm.
This B.Y.O.D.C. (bring your own dry clothes) event has returned to the mountain and is sure to entertain spectators and participants of the contest. There will be a man-made pond located at the foot of the mountain which costumed skiers and snowboarders attempt to cross without falling in. It’s alright if you don’t make it across the open water successfully, as the competition yields three prestigious winners: Best Costume, Best Skim and Best Splash. Registration opens online a week prior to the event and bib pick-up is available the day of the pond skim from 9am – 11am at the Historic Lodge. The skimming contest kicks off at 12 o’clock sharp with awards taking place 30 minutes after the competition ends.
The party kicks off at 11am where spectators can gather outside the Stockade Lodge prior to watching the hilarious attempts of the open water crossing. There will be barbeque grilling, a beer garden and music. There is no better way to celebrate the beginning of the Spring season!
