Weirs Beach on Lake Winnipesaukee has a long history of tourism and family fun. Long before the initial strip of sand was added along the shores of the big lake, the native Abenaquis Indians used the inlet into Paugus Bay as a primary fishing spot to support their village. Large fish traps called “Weirs” were built along the channel to capture fish swimming into the bay. Surrounded by natural beauty and eventually serviced by a train station, the Weirs grew into a tourist destination. A narrow strip of sand was added along the rocky shores to provide a space for vacationers to enjoy the newest trend of sunbathing in the 1930’s. Beginning in 1950, the city of Laconia began a shorefront transformation project that brought loads of sand to the area to create the expansive lake front beach that is now present day Weirs Beach. The Town eventually added “Beach” to the village’s name in the 1950’s to promote tourism.

As the area grew, tourist attractions and lodging grew up around it. The boardwalk that tourist and motorcycle enthusiast know so well developed around the train station. Businesses opened to service the foot traffic. Many of today’s establishments operate out of buildings that were constructed during this period. From swimming the pristine waters of Lake Winnipesaukee to grabbing some fried dough along the boardwalk, the Weirs Beach area provides an exciting and enjoyable tourist destination. Made famous by Laconia’s Motorcycle Week rally that brings hundreds of thousands of bikers to the region each year, the Weirs also offers a variety of attractions for vacationers. From go-cart rides and mini-golf to boat rentals and classic arcade gaming, Weirs Beach is a great place for family fun. Funspot Arcade, the self-proclaimed biggest arcade in the world, is just a short drive up the road from the beach. For visitors who enjoy outdoor adventure, the Lakes Region offers a variety of lakeside hiking trails with spectacular views of Lake Winnipesaukee. Gunstock Ski Mountain in nearby Gilford is another great area amenity offering family skiing in the winter and summer adventure at the new zip line.

For those looking for a pleasant balance of family fun or an adventurous weekend with a special someone, Weirs Beach is the perfect destination. Situated on a slope above Paugus Bay just a short distance from the beach, the Summit Resort offers the perfect home base to explore the Lakes Region during the day and relax during the night. Come visit Weirs Beach and book a room with us, hopefully you will be coming back for years to come.

The indoor pool area is in great shape for the busy season. This quick video shows a behind the scenes look at our recently finished maintenance overhaul.

At the Summit Resort we take pride in our amenities center. Our indoor pool area is truly a top-notch facility. Kids love the 2 watersides and adults enjoy basking in the large roman spa or relaxing in the grotto area behind the waterfall. Needless to say, guests appreciate the pools and as a result they see a lot of traffic over the course of a year.

As part of our yearly upkeep, our maintenance staff recently went to work draining the pools, stripping the lights and grinding down the base layers to put things into ship-shape for the new summer season. Thanks to the hard work of our painter Frank and our Head of Maintenance Roland, all of the pools received a fresh resurfacing to compliment the new flooring we put in a few years back. Needless to say, the facilities are in great shape.

If you are interested in seeing the pool area for yourself, don’t hesitate to check out one of our package deals. We hope you enjoy it as much as we think you will.

With over 40 forested acres across the street from Paugus Bay on Lake Winnipesaukee, The Summit Resort has a secret. Our peaceful location, set apart from the hustle and bustle of nearby Weirs beach offers a unique and convenient setting to host your New Hampshire Wedding. For years we have focused on running the resort for our timeshare owners and guests. Weddings have been largely un-promoted at the property. Despite all this, the requests have rolled in. Do you offer wedding services here? Can I see your function room? How long have you been putting on weddings at the Resort?

Even with a lackluster effort to show off our hidden option for a Wedding overlooking Winnipesaukee, the weddings have come to us. Perhaps this has something to do with our convenient location. In the heart of the Lakes Region, The Summit offers an interesting alternative to some other wedding venues in the area. Our tree-top level function room provides a large space with a full bar area and a deck that offers peekaboo views of Paugus Bay and the Channel heading into the Weirs. Offering a more affordable venue than other locations along the lake, The Summit has a catalog of upstanding vendors that can help transform your special day into a dream wedding. With established catering relationships and ample size to serve your needs, perhaps you should schedule a visit to see for yourself. Our secret may be out, but our commitment to service remains the same.
